영어 단어 | Nonbinary(넌바이너리),Genderfluid(젠더플루이드),Gender neutral(젠더뉴트럴),unisex(유니섹스)의 차이

생물학적 성(sex)과 달리 쓰이는 Gender 젠더. 그 뜻은 사회학적 성을 의미하는데요. 요새 그런 젠더가 규정 지어지기 어렵고 난해한 패션이 유행이기도 하고, 실제로 헐리웃에서는 공식석상에도 그런 패션을 입고 나타나는 스타들도 많아요.

그와 관련된 영어 단어를 좀 설명해 보려고 하는데요. 한국어로도 설명하기는 어려운 개념이지만, 그래도 이해가 되도록 열심히 알려드려 보도록 할게요. 

 

 

  Nonbinary

 Nonbinary는  non'없는'과 binary 두가지(0과 1) 나눠지는 '2진법' 을 의미하죠. 

 

단어 자체는 알겠지만 그래도 감이 안 오신다고요. 단어 뜻 자체를 조금 더 생각해볼까요?

Non-binary gender identity is simply one term that may be used to describe individuals who may experience a gender identity that is neither exclusively male or exclusively female or is in between or even beyond both genders.

논바이너리 성 정체성은 단순히 남성도 여성도 아닌, 혹은 그 중간, 혹은 심지어 그 두 성(남성과 여성)을 모두 넘어서는 성 정체성을 경험할 수 있는 개인을 설명하는 데 사용할 수 있는 용어입니다.

Non-Binary is an umbrella term referring to people whose gender identity is neither female nor male. Non-binary includes those who believe they are bigender (a mix of male and female) and agender (they don’t identify with any identity or gender). Some individuals identify as part male or female and part agender (demi gender). Demigender sometimes are referred to as demi girls or demi boys. Several other identities also exist within the non-binary.

논바이너리(Non-Binary)는 성별 정체성이 여성도 남성도 아닌 사람들을 지칭하는 포괄적인 용어입니다. 논바이너리에는 자신이 바이젠더(남성과 여성의 혼합)와 에이젠더(정체성이나 성별로 동일시하지 않음)라고 믿는 사람들이 포함됩니다. 일부 개인은 일부는 남성 또는 여성으로, 일부는 에이젠더(데미 젠더)로 식별합니다. 데미젠더는 때때로 데미 걸스 또는 데미 보이즈로 불립니다. 논바이너리에는 여러 다른 아이덴티티도 존재합니다.

 

 

  Genderfluid 

 

Gender for them is more “fluid” than we've traditionally thought it to be. 

Genderfluid is a part of the non-binary identity. Individuals that identify as gender-fluid recognize that their expression and their gender identity alters between female and male. When someone wears clothes that are normally associated with a gender that’s different from their presumed gender, they are, most of the time, presumed to be genderfluid.

우리가 젠더를 전통적으로 생각했던 것보다 그들(젠더플루이드)에게 더 "유동적"입니다.  

 

Genderfluid는 논바이너리 정체성의 일부입니다. 젠더 유체로 식별하는 개인은 자신의 표현과 젠더 정체성이 여성과 남성 사이에서 변한다는 것을 인식합니다. 누군가가 일반적으로 추정되는 젠더와 다른 젠더와 관련된 옷을 입으면 대부분의 경우 젠더플루이드로 추정됩니다.

 

그러니까 조금 더 간단하게 얘기하자면, 논바이너리는 여성도 남성도 아닌 사람들을 지칭하는 큰 단어, 그 안에 남성과 여성 사이에서 변화하는 젠더인 '젠더 플루이드'가 있다고 생각하시면 됩니다. 

 

 

  Gender Neutral

Neutral은 중립적인 의미인데요. 그러니, 젠더 뉴트럴은 ‘성 중립’을 뜻합니다. 기존의 남녀에 대한 고정관념이 모호해지고 그 둘의 구분을 없어진다는 것을 뜻하며, ‘젠더리스(Genderless)’라 불리기도 합니다.

형용사로서의 젠더뉴트럴 : 모든 성별에 적용 가능하거나 사용 가능하다. 

형용사로서의 젠더뉴트럴 : 성별을 나타내거나 제한하지 않으므로 모든 성별 및 성별이 없는 사람들에게 적용되거나 사용 가능합니다. 

  Unisex

유니섹스는 많이들 들어보셨죠? 옷 살때 티셔츠 같은거 유니섹스이렇게 표기하는 경우가 꽤 있었는데요. 이건 또 젠더뉴트럴과는 완전히 똑같다고 할 수 없다고 합니다.

형용사로서의 유니섹스 : 모든 성별 또는 성별에 적합하도록 설계되었습니다.
