영어 선생님 자료 영어 스피킹 주제 | 주제 : 영화 (질문,참고 글,숙어) / feat.여주 성인영어 클래스

여주에서 4주마다 큰 주제를 정하고, 같이 이야기 해보는 수업을 진행하고 있어요. 작년 7월부터 진행하고 있고 작년 7월 시작부터 듣고 계신 멤버도 있고 몇달전부터 계속 듣고 계신 멤버도 있고 새로온 멤버도 있어요. 원래는 4명을 정원으로 시작했지만 적은 인원으로 더 많은 말을 할 수 있도록 하는 기회를 드리는 게 좋겠다는 결론이라, 3명으로 정원을 줄였지만 알차게 진행하고 있는 수업입니다. (이미 정원은 다 찼고 다른 시간대(오전) 클래스를 열까 고민중이에요. 관심이 있는 분들이 있으면 좋겠네용.) 

 

어느 수업이든 어떤 학생과 어떤 선생님이 있느냐에 따라서 수업이 많이 달라 지는 것 같아요. 그래서 영업비밀(?)이긴 하지만 자신 있게 

1주차 : 영화 관련 표현들 배우기  

숙어나 영화 관련된 표현들을 배웁니다. (같이 읽어보면서 설명을 해드려요.) 

1) I have class tonight. so let's go to a matinee instead. A matinee is a showing of a movie in the daytime, usually in the afternoon. Matinees are often cheaper than shows at night. 2) What's it rated ?  Many countries have a system for rating movies evaluating how appropriate the movie is for various ages. This is the movie rating system in the United States.  G general audience PG parental guidance suggested PG13 parents strongly cautioned R restricted  NC17 adults only  3) The first movie was a hit but the sequel bombed.  Describing a movie as a hit means it's popular and successful. A sequel is another movie that continues the story or theme of a previous movie. For example, Toy Story 2 is the sequel to Toy Story.  If you say a movie bombed it means that it was a failure. It was not popular or successful  4) I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.  This is an idiomatic expression that means that the movie was very interesting and exciting. You were so involved with the movie that you sat on the edge the front part of your seat to get closer to the action.  5) The special effects were breathtaking but the acting left something to be desired. Special effects are the effects created by computers and acting is the performance of the actors and actresses. If you say something is breathtaking, it was amazing and incredible. The expression ‘left something to be desired’ means it was not very good. You wish it had been better.  6) Have you seen the trailer for the final part of the trilogy? A trailer is a two to three minute video summary of a movie showing a few scenes that will interest people in seeing the entire movie. A trilogy is a series of three movies like Lord of the Rings.  7)I have a hard time understanding the dialogue without subtitles.  I have a hard time is a common way to say I have difficulty. In everyday spoken English, subtitles are the written words on the bottom of the screen. 8) Although the premise was intriguing the plot was complex and a little hard to follow. The premise is the idea or concept of the movie. And intriguing is a word that means interesting, something that gets your attention. The plot is the story of a movie or book. And if it was hard to follow, it means it was difficult to understand or confusing as you were watching the movie.  9)The completely implausible twist at the end ruined it. A twist is an unexpected turn of events. If you describe it as implausible, it means it was too unlikely, not probable or too difficult to believe that it could really happen in that way. The word ruined means made it bad. 10)It's the feel-good movie of the year I found it very touching. A feel-good movie is one that makes you feel good obviously. The word touching means that it affected you emotionally in a good way. Another word you can use is heartwarming it made your heart feel positive emotions.  11) My boyfriend thought it was hilarious but I thought they went a little overboard with the potty humor. The word hilarious means extremely funny. Potty humor also called toilet humor or off-color humor is humor that is rather gross or disgusting because it involves sex or bodily functions. The expression went a little overboard means there was a little too much. 12) To be honest I liked the remake better than the original the cast was much stronger.   You can start A phrase ‘with to be honest’ when you want to give your honest opinion. Sometimes filmmakers take a movie from the past and recreate it. The new version is called a remake. The word cast refers to all the actors and actresses who participated in the movie.

좋아하는 영화 중 하나의 줄거리를 말해볼거니까 준비를 해달라고 하는데 꼭 말하는 점이 있어요. 영화 제목을 바로 말하지 말 것. 듣는 사람들이 맞춰 볼 거거든요. 그리고 같이 맞출거기 때문에 조금은 알려진 대중적인 영화로 준비해달라고 부탁을 합니다. (너무 마이너한 영화는 줄거리를 말해도 맞추지 못 할 수 있으니까요.)

 

2주차 : 저번주에 나간 숙제 검사를 합니다. 이게 생각보다 재밌어요. 처음에는 뭐지 뭐지 하면서 같이 집중하게 되고 점점 들으면 들을 수록, 다들 열심히 정답을 맞추기 위해 노력해요. 다들 준비해오기도 하지만, 저도 추측할 수 있을만한 줄거리를 준비해갑니다. 근데 줄거리는 또 너무 티날 수 있어서 전반적인 영화가 어떤 걸 담고 있는지 (이게 줄거리려나요..?) 얘기하는 편이에요.(저는 보통 애니메이션이나 정말 정말 유명한 영화들을 준비해가요.)

예시) This movie has a frame narrative. Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for the main character, who is uprooted from her hometown life when her father starts a new job in a different city. In this movie, the main character is guided by five different characters. They live in one place and control the main character’s mind. As her and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in the new city, turmoil ensues in the place where the 5 other characters live(Headquarters). There is a main important character among those five who tries to keep things positive, but the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school. This movie is about one girl’s journey of her emotions’ growth. At the end of the movie, I’ve learned five big lessons – Active Listening Is Where It’s At. You Can’t Govern Others’ Emotions. Emotions Aren’t Good or Bad. Embrace Sadness.Tap into Your Core Memories. It reminds us to embrace the wholeness of ourselves, give ourselves permission to not be “okay,” and that we have to give those around us a chance to work through their emotional realizations. 3주차 : 4주차를 위해서 도움이 될만한 글을 같이 읽어봐요. 중간 중간 설명도 하고요. 

IF YOUR LIFE IS A MOVIE AND YOU’RE THE DIRECTOR, WHY DID YOU ADD THIS SCENE TO IT  Imagine your life as an epic, three-hour movie. In this saga there are numerous high points and low points, and both drama and comedy. There are coming-of-age moments and passages of growing older. There will likely be some real challenges, and maybe even a few moments when you think you won’t make it. The movie may have some scary scenes. It will be tough! But there will also be scenes of joy and victory. There will be times when you’re proud of what you’ve overcome. Sooner or later, every movie and every life comes to an end. But let’s not consider the end just yet, with all the credits and the debrief over whether sitting in the theater for three hours was worth it. Instead, let’s consider the scenes that transpire along the way. In the epic, three-hour movie of your life, every scene exists for a reason. Where do these scenes come from? Presumably they come from the director, who determines the plotting and sequence of events from start to finish. Who directs the movie of your life? Well, you do—of course. It’s your life! So here’s the interesting part: in the movie of your life, what happens when something goes wrong? What happens when an unexpected challenge appears? If you believe that your life isn’t determined entirely by chance, but instead at least partially through your own choices, perhaps the unexpected challenges are there for you to grow. If something happens that isn’t what you want or expect, ask yourself, “Why do I put this in my movie?” and “How will I respond?” We know that we grow through hardship, but we don’t often purposely choose hardship. Or do we? Maybe we write these scenes into the movie of our life, either consciously or otherwise. I don’t believe “everything happens for a reason” or that the world is fair. If we pause for even a moment to consider the victims of war and violence, as well as those who live in true poverty, I’d never want to suggest that somehow they imposed those tragedies on their lives. But if we leave trauma aside and focus instead on our lives of ordinary ups and downs, perhaps it’s helpful to consider the scenario of our life as a movie, with scenes added or deleted by the director. 다음주 과제를 줍니다. 'If your life is a movie and you're the director, what's the first the scene of the movie and why? And what do you call the name of that movie?' 본인의 삶이 영화고 본인이 감독이라면 첫 장면은 어떤 장면일지. 왜인지. 그리고 제목은 뭐라고 할지 다음주에 같이 얘기해보기로 합니다. 

 

4주차 : 과제를 이야기 해봐요. 'If your life is a movie and you're the director, what's the first the scene of the movie and why? And what do you call the name of that movie?' 이런 이야기를 해보면 참 각자 많은 생각들을 해오시더라고요. 듣고 있으면 재밌기도 하고 많은 생각을 하게 되기도 해요. 제 영화의 첫 장면과 제목도 같이 공유해보고요. 이유도 말해봅니다. 

 

이런 구성으로 이야기 하는데, 참여도도 높고 이야기 하다 보면 재밌어요. 매달 다른 주제로 이야기 하면 주제가 모자를 것 같지만, 수다의 영역은 생각보다 넓기 때문에 또 이야기 할 것들이 많이 생겨요.
